Aquatic Addiction && Whitney Anam
Suddenly So Close && Kent Jones
Dominic pulled up to the track, a large emerald green and white trailer being towed behind his truck. Even though Theo was usually quite calm and well-mannered, he was banging on the side of the trailer with a hoof. Poor Sierra was probably wondering what in the world the 4 year old stallion was doing. Motioning to the two jockeys who had pulled up beside him, Dominic got out of his truck and went around to the back of the trailer. "Alright. Before we get these 'hot-heads' out of the trailer, I'm going to give you your assignments. Whitney, today you are on our wonderful Theo. Kent, you're on our maiden Sierra. Hopefully she'll win a race or two soon. She's got a lot of potential. Even if she doesn't do well as a racer, she has possibilities as a broodmare." He said before opening up the trailer. He backed Sierra up first, the mare was quieter than the stallion. Handing Sierra's lead to Kent, he went back into the trailer and backed out Theo. As he was backing up the trailer, Elaine showed up. Dominic didn't notice her until she came behind him as he was walking Theo over to where Whitney had stood to tack up the 4 year old stallion. Just as he handed Whitney Theo's reins, Elaine came up behind him and gave him a hug. "Oh hey there Elaine! Didn't see you there. Come to see the workouts for Theo and Sierra?" He asked as he turned and gave her a hug as well. Elaine smiled at him and said, "But of course. I want to check on our veteran Theo, and our maiden Sierra." She chuckled. Giving her a kiss on the head, he turned to Whitney and Kent. "Whitney, take Theo over 14 furlongs. Breeze him. I want his reflexes sharp and I want him alert. He's been resting for far too long lately. Kent, take Sierra over 10 furlongs. Race the two alongside each other for the 10 furlongs Sierra is set for. Kent, once you've finished Sierra's breeze, walk her around the outside edge of the track. I want her cooled off before we put her into the trailer to head home." He said before waving the duo and their horses off to run.
Kent and Whitney settled their horses into the starting gate. Kent patted Sierra's neck. When the starter pressed the button, the two horses launched out of the gates. Theo was a stride in front of Sierra when they broke from the gate. Whitney urged the stallion into his first pace. Theo surged ahead of Sierra like a steam engine. The mare, although no match for Theo, managed to trail him a short distance behind. Dominic was pleased with how well Sierra was trailing behind the stallion. Watching as they rounded the 5 furlong mark, Dominic watched Sierra inch closer just a tad bit. Theo, on the other hand, was just coasting along. He was in as good of shape as ever. As Theo coasted along, Sierra was thundering along to try to catch up. Mild-mannered she may be, but she wasn't a fan of being behind another horse in a race. As the 10 furlong mark swept past, Kent began to pull Sierra up. Theo continued to steam towards the next furlong mark. The stallion, although he could go another 4 furlongs while tiring, was beginning to tire. Whitney began to slow him down as soon as they passed the 14 furlong mark. "Alright. Good boy. Good boy. Steady there Theo. Steady..." She murmured to the stallion as he began to slow. She gently slowed the large stallion down before beginning to walk him around the track. By now, Sierra was partially cooled off, and was completing her final walk around the large track.
As the mare came towards the trailer at a gentle walk, Dominic pulled out her cooling blanket. It was a dark emerald green with white trimming and Suddenly So Close embroidered on it in white thread. Once Kent halted the mare and untacked her, Dominic threw the blanket onto Sierra's back and fastened the straps. "Walk her around with her lead rope until Theo is cooled off some," Dominic ordered Kent. Turning to give Elaine a hug and a kiss on the cheek, he asked, "So what did you think of the performance of Sierra and Theo?" He asked her. Elaine was pretty much his almost-girlfriend, and they shared a lot of idle touches. Right now, his arm was wrapped around her waist while he waited for her to respond. Elaine thought for a moment and responded quickly. "Theo seems to be doing good, though he tires out near the 14th furlong... We'll need to work on that. Sierra amazed me. That little mare who is nowhere near Theo's league kept up with him quite well. Better than any other maiden mare. I'd say she's got a lot of spunk to win. We should enter them both in down-low races to test them out first, and work our way up." She said, a smile on her face. Theo finished his walk, and was brought over to the trailer. Once untacked, Dominic threw his blanket, same colors, just with his name on it, and prepared the two horses for their travel back home. He loaded both horses and then got in his truck as the others did the same. They drove off, back to the familiar surroundings of Emerald Isles.
